Junior and Senior Sports Days were a great success. We were overwhelmed by the sportsmanship displayed by all the pupils. The turn out of family and friends of the pupils was phenomenal!! The weather was kind on both days and Mr Tumble came to distribute the prizes in Junior Prize Giving.
Team Hill Croft has come third! They competed in the annual Indoor Athletic Championships held by Disability Sports NI and did us proud! Well done to all who took part as they all put in weeks of committed training. We are immensely proud and delighted of their achievement.
The annual Sportshall Athletics competition was held on 5th March 2013 in the Laganvalley Leisureplex, Lisburn. 18 schools (10 in our category) took part in events such as long jump, ball throw, javelin, target throw, speed bounce, sprint relay and obstacle course. Each team member participated in 1,2 or 3 events and the scores were added together to give a team total. As the results were read out there was much nervous anticipation (and that was just the staff!) and when Hillcroft were declared champions the pupils cheered loudly.
They all got a gold medal and certificate and we got a shiny trophy to keep. The pupils had a lovely day out, behaved beautifully and performed brilliantly. We are very proud of them all.

The Hillcroft football team took part in an I.F.A competition at the Antrim forum on the 20th March. Hillcroft played superbly, won all their matches, scored 15 goals and ended up winning the whole competition! Another trophy for the school.
Well done Hillcroft!
Every year a group of pupils train for the Sportshall Athletics competition held in the Laganvalley Leisureplex in Lisburn. The events are all Sportshall versions of athletics events eg standing long jump, javelin, throwing events and various relays. The event is a popular one and the pupils from Hillcroft usually do very well.
We run a "new age kurling" club in school and participate in a competition run by Disability Sports NI. The pupils push stones down the hall toward a target mat trying to get as close as possible to the centre spot. We often play friendly matches against other schools which is also a good social opportunity.
In the summer term the football team attend 2 competitions run by the IFA. These tournaments involve all the special schools in the area and are a great day out. In preparation the team train in the hall and also receive a block of coaching sessions from an IFA coach each year.
We hold our annual sports day in late May/early June. Those pupils who are able sprint in a series of heats culminating in a Junior, Intermediate and Senior final. Medals are awarded to those in first, second and third place. The whole school also take part in some novelty races and fun games. In 2012 we themed our sports day around the Olympics with our own opening ceremony with flags and Olympic events.
