SEN 4 is a class that caters for pupils with PMLD and complex medical needs. We follow a sensory curriculum which focuses on stimulating the senses, sensory integration, independence skills, communication and physical development. We use Sensory Stories, Sensology, Tacpac and Music and Movement sessions to help deliver this curriculum and provide sensory opportunities mapped to our pupils’ individual needs and next steps. Experiences are repeated regularly to allow students to develop familiarity and to feel confident interacting.

This term we have been learning all about Autumn. We have gone on sensory nature walks to collect leaves and other woodland materials to make a sensory tray, made harvest playdough, made a scarecrow using lots of different materials, used switches to operate fans to make a “leaf storm” and sung lots of Autumn themed songs using sensory props. One of our stories is “Pumpkin Soup” and as part of that we have roasted a pumpkin which smelt lovely and then made soup which we all sampled. This helped to bring our story to life. Some of our pupils are still learning from home so we have shared activities with them and have been delighted to see pictures of them joining in at home.
