S1 have been working really busy in October. We have been enjoying our class novel Matilda and even managed to play a few tricks on some staff members just the way Matilda played tricks on her dad! We have been learning about managing our emotions and how we can be a good friend. We enjoyed our last few sessions of coding club and even got to see a drone being used! Our class were fortunate to visit the Scripture Union bus at Abbotts Cross church where we engaged in a variety of interactive activities before having some lovely treats provided by the church. In the final week before half term we welcomed our parents into our class for our open morning where we wowed the by making some delicious chocolate apples.

In S1, as well as working alongside the National Curriculum subjects, we begin to focus more on the development of life skills in preparation for adult life, and you will find this reflected in our class activities and throughout the senior school as your young person moves through Hill Croft. This year we will be completing the ASDAN accreditation scheme for New Horizons. On a Monday our pupils are involved in student council and eco club. On a Tuesday the senior school pupils rotate around our subject specialists for art, cookery, music and PE and on a Friday afternoon we end with our popular senior clubs. Outside of the classroom we go on trips using school transport and /or public transport for breakfast clubs, class shopping and swimming, which allows us to reinforce our money work and social skills through practical experiences. We love finding ways to help people and running mini enterprise schemes throughout the year.
