J15 have been very busy in the past couple of months. We have continued meeting up with our friends from Rosstulla for our Shared Education sessions – we have been to the MAC to see the Elves and the Shoemaker, we have met together for an art project and we will be meeting again before Easter for a cookery project.
We have also started our Uplift programme where we been developing our skills in singing, acting and dance, and will be showcasing our talents to the rest of the school at the end of these sessions.
Our swimming sessions started before half-term and not only have we loved them, but we have all made great progress already. Some of us have learnt how to swim all by ourselves using floats!
In cookery we enjoyed making fish fingers, tuna sandwiches and crab croissants as part of our Under the Sea topic. We have also celebrated some key occasions by making some special treats – we made heart cupcakes for Valentine’s Day, Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and chocolate covered bananas as part of our Fairtrade Fortnight.
J15 have had a very busy and fun start to the new school year. Our first day back was filled with birthday fun for two pupils who had celebrated their birthdays in the week leading up to school beginning – we all thoroughly enjoyed catching up with our friends over birthday cake and music!
Our topic is ‘All about Me’ and we have been taking part in a variety of activities to learn more about our classmates. We particularly enjoyed our first circle time with S1 where we shared our pictures of our families and friends. We also loved making ‘Pancake Faces’ during cookery.
We have been hard at work with our literacy and numeracy skills and have been enjoying our practical activities to further develop our skills in this area. We have also enjoyed taking part in PE, Assemblies, Art and choir. Two of our favourite activities so far has been our weekly pony-riding sessions and our special treat our first Friday back visiting Mossley Mill for our break!
We can’t wait to see what is going to happen in the next few weeks!
J15 is the last class in Junior school with pupils from P6 and P7. Our focus throughout the year is to prepare each young person for their transition into senior school. This involves a focus on becoming more independent and developing our social and life skills through activities such as outings, shopping trips and links with other classes. We continue to follow the same topics and curriculum areas as our other friends in Key Stage 2 but with the focus on functional literacy and numeracy skills, alongside a drive to develop our self-esteem, resilience and self-help skills. We take part in a wide variety of subjects and activities throughout the year both within school (e.g. cookery, PE, circle time, choir etc) and out in the community including pony-riding and swimming sessions. We are really looking forward to a year filled with fun, new experiences!
